Chapter 9. Opening Documents
The Referral Express site features the ability to deploy various document types to external users (provider and their staff). Many of these documents are standard HTML web pages that require no additional software to use, however, some documents you might find online will be Adobe Acrobat Files (.PDF Files), and Microsoft Word Files (.DOC Files).
If you already have software installed on your computer to view these types of files, such as Microsoft Word for .DOC files, or Adobe Acrobat Reader for .PDF files, then you need not take any further action. Just click on the file you wish to view, and it should open automatically in the appropriate viewer.
If you do not already have software installed to view these file types, this document will describe how to obtain free software for viewing these files.
Microsoft Word DOC Files
Any links to a Microsoft Word DOC File on this site will be prefixed with a
Microsoft Word Logo . Word Documents
will open automatically when clicked on
if you have Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, or the Microsoft Word Viewer
installed on your computer. If Word is not already installed on your computer
or a Word DOC does not open automatically when you click on the file, you may
want to install the Microsoft Word Viewer. Word Viewer is a free program
that will allow you to open and view, but not edit, Word Documents (DOC Files).

Adobe Acrobat PDF Files
Any links to an Adobe Acrobat PDF File on this site will be prefixed with an

if you have Adobe Acrobat, or Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.
If a PDF viewer is not already installed on your computer or, if an Acrobat PDF
file does not open automatically when clicked on, you may want to install the
Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is a free program that will allow you to
open and view, but not edit, PDF Documents.
